No Birding Day - Santa's Village - 7 Aug 2024

Today, I had planned to sleep in with the family and drive the crew to Santa's Village to spend the day. But, my back wouldn't let me. At 6 am, I couldn't lay in bed anymore. So I got up and didn't know what to do with myself while the family slept.

At 8 AM, the smoke alarm in one of our rooms waking up the family. It seemed to just be a misfire as there was no actual fire, but it was startling for those still asleep to be awoken by the alarm. I swear I did not will it as I sat there not know what to do with myself.

After we settled the situation with the alarm, it still took us over an hour and half to get ready to go to breakfast. Fiona was set on Waffles so I found a spot which ended up being decent.

We made a quick stop to drop off some breakfast leftovers and then drove the hour to Santa's Village. Upon arrival my anxiety went through the roof as I read the sign which said "Online Reservations and Tickets Only". Did we just drive an hour just to turn around and go home? Luckily, there was still enough space to let us in.

In general, the park is geared to kids younger than our family, but we found enough for the kids, and the adults, to be interested in to fill a few hours. Compared to Clark's Bears though it didn't have the same relaxes feel. Jackson and I overheard one woman say, "I am done with this place. Too many families." She said this after waiting inline for 10 minutes at least. We also saw a woman park her stroller in the sun and start to walk away before she realized, "Oh! Andrew is in the stoller. I was about to help you." She rushed back to the stroller embarrassed at her slip of mind.

Eventually, the heat was too much for the kids and after Fiona overdosed on ice cream spilling it all over herself while eating we made our way to the exit. Of course, the exit had to pass through one final gift shop.

This was definitely a one and done for our family because of the age of our kids and our distance. I wouldn't want to spend anymore time there unless the kids were younger and we lived closer. If you live in NH, seems like a great place to take the kids on a hot summer day.

Summer Wrap Up

Summer vacation and my 2 month break from work came to an end this week. I can't say it has been a smooth transition for them or myself....
